According to the Straits Times (21 April 2017), the Singapore Tattoo Convention and the Singapore Tattoo Art and Culture Show had been held in 2009 and 2010, before the first Singapore Ink Show, which the paper announced for three days at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre. On 8 July 2019, in a written reply to Parliament, Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam stated that there is no offence when a minor gets a tattoo, with no parental consent required, and that the ministry saw no need to regulate the industry "for now".
