Poland— Tattoo scenes & cities

In Poland, the prison world had its own tattoo codes. A dot near the outer corner of the left eye, for example, marked an inmate belonging to the 'grypsujący' subculture, a tattoo around the eye, the 'mgiełka', signalled the same membership, and a dot between the thumb and index finger indicated a thief by trade.

The EU REACH rules, which took effect on 4 January 2022, restrict the permitted inks and require studios to be able to show their composition. According to a parliamentary question sent in November 2025 to the Minister of Health, sanitary inspections of studios follow different guidelines from one city to another.
