Kazakhstan— Tattoo scenes & cities
On 25 February 2026, Alima Assylbek (Euronews) reported that tattoo studios in Kazakhstan are seeing more requests for traditional Kazakh ornaments, notably the ram's horn (koshkar muyiz), the bird's wing (kus kanat) and the bird's beak (kusmuryn). Tattoo artist Sabina Sabyrbayeva, who started in 2019, says: "Demand creates supply. When more clients began asking for them, I felt the need to study the subject more deeply."
On 28 October 2025, Alina Khamarova (Informburo.kz) profiled Saltanat Kuanova, a tattoo artist in Almaty specialising in Turkic and ethnic ornaments, which she studied with a culture specialist; she says each pattern carries a meaning (health, luck, protection from the evil eye). She says she uses "Turkic" because Kazakh culture is part of it, and sometimes "Kazakh" to be better understood, and the article notes growing demand for patriotic motifs.
