Guatemala— Tattoo scenes & cities

On 29 February 2020, Pablo Juárez and Felipe Garrán (Prensa Libre) covered the eighth Expo Tattoo Guatemala, at the Hotel Real Intercontinental, zone 10, where local and Central American artists showed their designs and tattooed on site. Guest tattooist Barbiery Hernández, a New Yorker of Dominican origin, said: "tattooing is an art, it is a culture", and judged that the art is growing in Guatemala.

On 29 March 2025, the EFE agency, via La Estrella de Panamá, reported on the tenth ExpoTatto, held in Guatemala City on 29 and 30 March, with artists from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico and Colombia. Salvadoran tattooist Óscar Ayala, known as "Muzzu", said tattooing is now "freer" in Central America, where people get tattooed more because "before there was a lot of violence and gangs", and that the stigma against tattooed people had diminished in Guatemala and El Salvador.
