Belarus— Tattoo scenes & cities

The Belarus Tattoo Fest took place in Minsk on 30 and 31 May 2015, in its third year, with more than thirty artists, according to Belarus Digest (Siarhei Leskiec, 3 June 2015). Its theme was Belarusian history and culture: visitors could get national symbols tattooed, see exhibitions, attend workshops by Belarusian tattoo artists and buy tattoo equipment.

According to tattoo sketch artist Ales Pushkin, quoted in the same article, the fashion for national symbols goes back to a 2003 music project devoted to the work of the writer Uladzimir Karatkevich, for which a brochure of tattoo sketches was prepared. Tattoo artist Julia Pipetka welcomes young people's interest in national symbols and traditional ornaments, and finds it absurd for Belarusians to get tattoos in Chinese characters.
