Austria— Tattoo scenes & cities

Austria shares with Italy the Man from Hauslabjoch, known as Ötzi. Found in 1991 in the Ötztal Alps near the Austro-Italian border, then placed on the Italian side by an official survey, this man of about 5,300 years old bears 61 tattoos, groups of lines. A professor of acupuncture in Graz judges that many lie on classical acupuncture points.

In Vienna, in 1910, the architect Adolf Loos targeted tattooing in his lecture "Ornament and Crime": the modern man who tattoos himself would be a criminal or a degenerate. Today, tattooist is a regulated trade in Austria, requiring proof of competence. A guest tattooist from the European Union must notify the ministry of their service in writing before starting.
